When you transition from knowing your own writing voice only within the confines of personal journal pages and letters to family and friends out into the public domain, you wonder what it will be like. I’m only a couple of years into this experiment and here’s what it is like for me: freedom.

I’d written an article or two over the years that reached beyond my personal sphere but nothing like this last year. It feels vulnerable too, but that feeling pales in comparison to the joy of finding my walking legs after the work of crawling. The sense of freedom only enlarges when others affirm my new accomplishment; I’m walking! Thank you for supporting me, even as I toddle in an adventure that I know I do not fully understand the destination.

Today, I’m taking one more step into the unknown, safe with the Knower of all, and guest posting for a dear teacher, author and friend: Keren Hannah Pryor, of HIS Israel. I would be honored if you take a look. It’s one of an entire collection Keren is building exploring liminal spaces even as we write about them, it’s fun!

I also got to do a photo shoot with my friend Katie who is the model featured here, isn’t she radiant?

Here’s the beginning of the article with a link below to read the whole thing:

The Liminal Space, the threshold, the between, the there but not there yet, the carrying of a child within a woman, where the boundaries bleed into the living: this is a sacred space.

Somewhere between the most intimate of moments between man and woman, somewhere between sweat and light, somewhere between warmth and passion, somewhere between the moments we realize and the moments we are caught up—flesh and spirit mix; they mix again like an echo from the beginning.

Conception. In the dark of the womb, life.

Then, in the long months – where we celebrate growth, and must, at the same time be suspended between beginning and end, which is really only another beginning –
we wait. Read More Here…

Thanks for checking it out friends! Seeking through the liminal with you today,

An excerpt from Introduction to THE LIMINAL SPACE by Keren Hannah Pryor

What is a liminal space? The dictionary defines a limen as a threshold. A liminal space, therefore, is a circumstance within a space of time that is situated at the limen – the place where one condition is drawing to a close and another is beginning.

Poet, Shel Silverstein alludes to it thus: *

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends,
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow.
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we’ll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we’ll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.
