We fished and watched the sun go down out at Jacobson Park in Lexington,KY today. Autumn has peaked, and watching the sun set over the water was the crescendo of a beautiful day.

“Oh world, I cannot hold thee close enough!
Thy winds, thy wide grey skies! Thy mists that roll and rise!
Thy woods, this autumn day, that ache and sag
And all but cry with colour!” ~Edna St. Vincent Millay

I go outdoors with my children as often as I can, to see, to get perspective, to give them perspective. Tonight I saw my husband, he’s a good dad.

“Every moment and every event of every man’s life on earth plants something in his soul.” ~ Thomas Merton

I will always love photography as a tool that helps me see better. And words, I’m so thankful for words to paint and form and express! I hope you enjoy this following poem as much as I do… and if while reading it reminds you of someone, maybe let them know…

“I had a father who talked with me
Allowed me the right to disagree
To question, and always answered me
As well as he could-and truthfully

He talked of adventures: horrors of war
Of life, its meaning: what love was for
How each would always need to strive
To improve the world to keep it alive

Stressed the duty we owe each other
To be aware each man is a brother
Words for laughter he also spoke
A silly song or a happy joke

Time runs along, some say I’m wise
That I look at life with seeing eyes
My heart is happy, my mind is free
I had a father who talked with me”
